Entering its sixth generation on the American market, the 2021 Ford Explorer comes in five editions. Having a second-generation design on the domestic marketplace, the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse is sold in up to seven trims. At the Ford Crestview dealership, we're thrilled to compare both SUVs.

Power

Peaking at 300 horsepower, the 2.3 L EcoBoost engine drives the 2021 Ford Explorer. Using direct injection, turbocharging and the Ti-VCT technologies, this I-4 powertrain cranks out 310 pound-feet of torque. The 2021 Chevy Traverse's 3.6 L engine can't produce more than 266 lb-ft. However, this V6 SIDI powertrain automatically shuts off to reduce emissions and conserve fuel in some situations. For its naturally aspirated design, the six-cylinder engine offers a great towing rating of 5,000 pounds. When equipped with the standard 2.3 L turbo engine, the 2021 Ford Explorer at Ford Crestview has a towing capacity that's greater by up to 300 pounds than the Chevy model. You can maximize the towing rating at 5,600 pounds if you choose the 3.0 L V6 EcoBoost engine and Class III Trailer Tow Package. Also having a turbocharged design, this engine is rated at 400 hp and 415 lb-ft. Such ratings can only be achieved by the sporty ST model. Additionally, the 2021 Explorer offers a 3.3 L hybrid powertrain that has a peak output of 318 hp and 322 lb-ft.

Handling

Every 2021 Ford Explorer model runs on an automatic transmission system that creates 10 fixed shifting speeds. Boosted by the SelectShift capability, the gearbox is superior to the 2021 Traverse's nine-speed automatic transmission. However, this Chevy SUV has the Driver Shift Control technology that reduces the potential for glitches in the gearbox. At Ford Crestview, we are excited to talk about the 2021 Explorer's Intelligent 4WD System. Positioned in the center console, an ergonomic dial allows you to instantly engage the Terrain Management System. During the winter season, you can confidently hit the road thanks to the Slippery Mode and Deep Snow/Sand Mode. Heading on a road trip? Turn on the Eco Mode to maximize the driving range on the highway. If your trailer is packed with bulky equipment, turn on the Tow/Haul Mode. You will not get as many driving modes from the 2021 Chevy Traverse's Drive Mode Selector, which is synced with an all-wheel drive. When exploring the Ford Explorer at Ford Crestview, you should learn more about the Trailer Sway Control and Side Wind Stabilization. A rear-wheel drive (RWD) is also available if you want a more dynamic drive in this premium Ford SUV.

Safety

The 2021 Ford Explorer at Ford Crestview offers the Active Park Assist 2.0 technology for a more confident drive to urban destinations. Activated by a button in the cockpit, this all-new driving aid determines if the vehicle will fit into an open parking space. By holding the designated electronic button, the innovative technology will smoothly maneuver this large SUV into a parallel parking space. The 2021 Chevy Traverse's Rear Park Assist doesn't quite provide as much assistance as the Active Park Assist 2.0 function. Of course, the 2021 Explorer offers loads of other cutting-edge technologies that keep you calm on the highway, such as the Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control. If you're unsure about the maximum speed limit on the freeway, check the alerts from the Speed Sign Recognition. The all-new IACC also has the Lane Centering function that reduces the risk of accidental swerving and veering. If a pedestrian suddenly appears in front of you, the Automatic Emergency Braking will attempt to bring this Ford SUV to a quick stop. Similarly, the Chevy model offers the AEB technology to prevent collisions with people or vehicles. Both three-row models offer camera systems with multiple views of the surroundings.

Ford Crestview invites you for a test drive in the 2021 Explorer SUV. Come to our dealership and explore all five trims from the inventory, including the athletic ST and luxurious Platinum.
